Multilingualism

We offer a multilingual curriculum (German, English and French) as of Kindergarten, French being an additional optional subject at that level. At Primary, however, French is an integral part of the weekly schedule. Let us have a more detailed look at our curriculum:

At Tandem IMS, we do not see children's languages as separate entities. We believe that in our multilingual classroom ecology, they develop a much richer, stronger and more fully-fledged linguistic repertoire, greatly enhancing their ability to link concepts and build perceptual cognitive understanding. What is unique at Tandem IMS, is that several times a week there are two teachers working with the class at the same time - one being a German native-speaker, the other one an English native-speaker. This pedagogic approach to teaching languages is referred to as «Translanguaging».

In primary school, our pupils learn to read, write, speak and understand. They actively engage in language change and compare their thoughts in different languages. At upper Primary, our students are able to write reports, prepare presentations or lead various projects in verbal and written forms in English, German and French.

Our students are tested using both standardised English and German assessments throughout their Primary School years to gauge their language skills. Additionally, beginning in Grade 3, they are given the opportunity to take the DELF exams to assess their French language levels. The DELF exam also allows our students to gain first-hand experience in external exams.

Our daughter Milla started in Kindergarten 1 and finished in grade 6. We are so thankful to all the teachers, management and administration for the great work they do with the children. Tandem IMS offers a friendly environment and the warmth of a family. Milla had a lot of fun but she also learned a lot. She is not only academically strong in English and German and advanced in French but she developed as an individual who loves and respects people, who is independent and confident, who is free to express her opinion, who knows how to organize her daily life and work under pressure. As she said in her graduation speech: «Here in Tandem I had the best time of my life! I am looking forward to the future because I know I am well prepared for the next step of my life.»
