Admission and Entrance Requirements
Our admission process requires trial days for the youngest classes in Primary 5 and 6, as well as entrance examinations for the Progymnasium and Kurzgymnasium. Here are some further key points:
Primary:
External Children wishing to enter Grades 5 and 6 must complete a 1 week trial at Tandem IMS, as well as provide a copy of their latest school report card. In addition, a «Tandem IMS Learner Profile» must also be submitted by the child’s previous school.
Progymnasium and Kurzgymnasium:
Children enrolled at Tandem IMS for at least one school year with an average grade of 4.75 or above will not need to take an entrance exam for our Progymnasium. Similarly, pupils from partner schools meeting the same criteria are also exempt from entrance exams at Progymnasium.
Children from partner secondary schools can gain direct access to our Kurzgymnasium with (1) an average of at least 5.0, (2) having additionally completed the school’s Gymnasium preparation course, and (3) received a recommendation from the school. In this case, the Tandem IMS admission exams and interview will still be conducted to gain a baseline assessment of the enrolling pupils.
External pupils seeking entry into the Progymnasium(Grade 7) or the first year of the Kurzgymnasium (Grade 9) must first register for an admissions interview with the school management. Following this interview, eligible candidates are required to meet an academic standard with an average grade of 4.75 on their most recent report card. Admission is based on a combined assessment: 50% from prior academic performance and 50% from the Tandem IMS entrance examination.
For Progymnasium applicants, the average is calculated from core subjects in the first semester of Grade 6 (Maths, German, French, English, "Gestalten" and "Natur, Mensch, Gesellschaft"), while Kurzgymnasium applicants are evaluated on Grade 8 (or 9) subjects in Maths, German, French, English, "Gestalten" and "Natur und Technik." The entrance exam consists of German (split between a language test and essay) and Maths, and both groups (Pro- and Kurzgymi) must achieve an overall average of 4.75 or higher for eligibility.
Consideration may exceptionally be given to pupils with grades of 4.5 or above, if they particularly excel in the interview.
For external applicants, please ensure that all necessary documents, including the most recent report card, are submitted before scheduling the admissions interview.
Regarding the Tandem IMS exams and the final decision for admittance: we will be transparent with the results and provide parents with copies of the marked tests. All Maths and German exams will be created and marked by experienced external ZAP Gymnasium teachers.
Admissions interviews are now taking place before the exams in March. For all families wishing to register their child for an admissions interview (to begin in Year 7 or Year 9 in August 2025), please complete the following Pre-enrolment link. After submitting this, you will receive an email with a link to our booking page.
